Las Vegas – Hawaii – San Francisco – Los Angeles, December 12-25-2003

Fri, December 12, 2003 – On the Way

Every year, in the winter we go on a vacation. I always enjoy our vacation.

We started our vacation at the airport where we went through all the security. We boarded the stinky airplane Jetsgo. The airplane smelled bad, cost money to buy food and had no movies. On the airplane, I would play my GameBoy and slept.

When we arrived at Las Vegas, we collected our luggage, rented a car and went to a stinky motel called “Gold Spike”. There were a lot of people smoking and playing slot machines at this hotel. After checking in, we explored the streets a little bit and ate at McDonald’s. The streets were really beautiful and the restaurants looked delicious with pictures of steaks and lobsters. The lights everywhere made me very excited.

Sat, December 13, 2003- Grand Canyon

The next day, we packed up and we found a great buffet restaurant. We parked and had to pay $2.00. Dad asked, “ Why isn’t free?” We walked to the buffet, it had so much good food and a talented chef.

After breakfast, we headed to the Hoover Dam. The Hoover Dam is also a beautiful place. We got lost, but luckily we found the right way. It was about a 5 hour drive. The mountains were so pretty. When we got there we went to the Grand Canyon Park and the trees made the mountains wonderful.

We stayed at a nice Best Western Hotel and had a good dinner there. After dinner, we played pool table.

Sun December 14, 2003- MGM Hotel

The next day we packed up and checked out after eating breakfast at the Best Western. We then drove back to the Grand Canyon and drove along the path enjoying the wonderful scenery.

We then headed back to Las Vegas and went to a large hotel called MGM Grand. We went through valet parking and checked in. Once I entered the lobby of the hotel, it looked like a palace. On the way to the elevators, we walked by a casino. I saw a lot of slots. When we got to our room on the 25th floor, I played with the safe and locked by Gameboy inside by accident. The hotel people had to come and fix the safe.

Mon December 15, 2003 – Las Vegas

The next day we went to the “Golden Nugget” for breakfast but it was packed so we went to “Lady Luck”. Then we went to Caesar’s Palace to watch a show called Atlantis. After that, we went to the fountain show at the Bellagio and it was great. Then we took a tram to T.I. (Treasure Island) to watch a show called “The Sirens of T.I.” I liked the cannons, fires and fighting the best about the show. We saw a fake volcano erupting. For dinner we ate Subway and had Rocky Road from Hagen Daz for dessert.

Tue, December 16, 2003 – Hawaii

The next day we went to the Rain Forest Café at the MGM Grand for breakfast and everything felt real there. We then returned the car at the airport. We checked our luggage and boarded a Hawaiian airlines plane to Honolulu. I made a friend in the plane and his name was Julian. He had a lot of Gameboy games. During the flight I watched a movie called “Seabiscuit.”

When we went to Waikiki beach, we ate sushi at a Japanese restaurant called “Restaurant Run”. We also saw a show at the Kuhio park with lots of Hawaiian songs and dances.

We were staying at a hotel called Circle hotel which had tiny rooms but had a view of the ocean from our balcony.

Wed, December 17, 2003 – Waikiki

The next day, we had buffet breakfast at Fuji. Dad ate too much and got diarrhea and had to rest in the room. Mom took Alex and me to the Waikiki beach. At the beach, we rented a boogy board and my arm got scraped by the board. Later on, a jelly fish stung me on my wrist. It was painful and Mom washed the poison with fresh water and sunscreen lotion.

Next we drove to Chinatown for dinner at a Vietnamese Pho. I saw a gigantic cockroach on the wall. After that we went to a beautiful park to watch the sunset on the beach. The sun was round, shiny and gorgeous when it was disappearing into the ocean.

Thu, December 18, 2003 – Island Tour

The next day we ate breakfast at Burger King. I ate an egg and sausage burger with cini-minis. After that we waited to be picked up by a tour bus which will give us a tour of the Oahu island. When it arrived we boarded and took our seats. The driver introduced himself as “Cousin David” and there was hair showing from his nose. He explained that there were no coconuts on the palm trees at the parks because the government didn’t want coconuts falling on the public. The tour was a circle of the island. The beaches were beautiful because the palm trees made it looked like an artist’s picture.

Fri, December 19, 2003 – Polynesian Cultural Centre (PCC)

Today we got ready for the bus to the PCC. The PCC is where you see the history and culture of the Polynesian people such as Fiji, Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti and Tonga. It was a beautiful sunny day at the PCC.

First we rode on a boat tour. We saw a lot of tropical plants and flowers. We saw a lot of different traditional dances at the Polynesian Villages. I liked the baking of the coconut bread. At 5:30 pm, we went to a Luau for dinner. We got a lei and there was a lot of entertainment and food. I ate rice, pork and chicken. I enjoyed the fire dance at the end of the Horizon show.

Sat, December 20, 2003 – Hanauma Bay

Today we drove to a snorkeling beach called “Hanauma Bay”. We watched a video that showed some of the fish that lived in Hanauma Bay and told the visitors how to protect the corals there. We rented the gear and started to snorkel. I had such a great time at Hanauma Bay.

After we finished snorkeling we set off on a dinner cruise called the “Sunset Cruise”. First it was boring because we didn’t eat anything yet, it was more fun after we had food and lot of good entertainment. We didn’t want to go up and dance so we just sat there and watched other guests enjoying themselves. It was a really great day.

Sun, December 21, 2003 – Diamond Head, Kahlua Beach

Today we were hiking the inactive volcano Diamond Head. Diamond Head is a crater and a fort to protect the island. We climbed the volcano. At first it was a rough road and later on there were a lot of stairs. Alex and I were way ahead of Mom and Dad. Once we got to the top, the view was spectacular and Mom took a lot of nice pictures.

After that we went to a beach called “Kahlua Beach”. There was a rock that looked like a boy sleeping. At the beach, I swam in the ocean. I ate a burger and fries for lunch. We started to walk back to the car and drove back to our Circle Hotel. I had a really tiring day for climbing Diamond Head.

Mon, December 22, 2003 – Sea Life Park

The next day we drove to the Sea Life Park. First we went through an aquarium with lots of fish. Next we saw a cool sea lion show and the sea lions did a lot of cool tricks. After the show, we went to see the feeding of the noisy sea lions. Last we saw a dolphin show. If you sat in the three front rows, you would have gotten splashed by the dolphin jumps.

Next we rode to a killer beach. I got a big shore break by a humongous wave that I got trapped in. This beach was real rough. I got sand in my bathing trunk. That day was so dreadful.

Tue, December 23, 2003 – Pearl Harbour – Flight to San Francisco

Today we were leaving Hawaii. On the way to the airport, we stopped by Pearl Harbour. The line was too long, so we left for the airport. We got our boarding passes and boarded the plane to go to San Francisco. We watched a movie called “Sinbad”.

When we landed in San Francisco, we rented a car and went to our hotel, Sheraton.

Wed, December 24, 2003 – Uncle Jeffrey

The following day, we went to my great grandmother’s house. We ate breakfast at her house. Then we visited my uncle, Jeffrey who is also 9 years old. His mom is my mom’s aunt, so he is my mom’s cousin and is my uncle.

We then drove to an electronics store and Jeffrey’s mom gave both of us presents. At night, we went back to my great grandma’s house. I had pizza for dinner. Jeffrey, Alex and I all played Game Cube games and I also played my Game Boy.

Thu, December 25, 2003- San Francisco

Today we did two exciting things and they were: riding on a cable car and going to the Golden Bridge in San Francisco. On the cable car, I was hanging on the step.

Fri, December 26, 2003 – Los Angeles

Today we said good bye to the relatives in San Francisco and drove to Los Angeles. Before we left, we visited my mom’s friend who had a nice dog.

We drove along the coast and the winding road made me sea sick. I puked on the way. When we got to Los Angeles, we visited another friend of mom’s and I watched a movie called “Finding Nemo” at her house.

Sat, December 27, 2003- Los Angeles

Today we went to a beach called Muscle Beach. After that we went to Hollywood Boulevard. We saw Jackie Chan’s star.

Sun, December 28, 2003- Back to Toronto

This was the last day of our vacation. We drove back to Las Vegas. We caught a couple of free shows at the Vegas hotels before returning the car and flew back to Toronto, again on the Jetsgo plane.

Conclusion

Hawaii is the best place for a family vacation because of the beautiful beaches, friendly people, warm weather and rich culture.

This vacation was my best trip yet because I got to spend time with my family and meet my uncle Jeffrey in San Francisco. I also got to learn a lot of new things about Hawaii and California. I will definitely go back to Hawaii in the future if I have a chance. I hope Jeffrey would come to Toronto.
